Summary: For Canada to become a truly innovation-driven nation, the Federal Government needs to first focus its efforts on developing a National Innovation Strategy which takes into account the strengths of regions across its provinces and territories. The strategy could then be put to action through Business Engagement Centres (BECs), to be strategically established in R&D hub regions across the country. The BECs would provide corporations with gateway to universities and colleges engaged in research, with full complement of opportunities for collaborations in all aspects of R&D. In addition, a BEC provides direct access and better coordination to multiple points within universities and training colleges. The BECs will be guided by, and supported through, regional science and technology advisory offices with a head office to be located in central Canada.
