Submitter(s): Fuchs, Richard

Summary: The submission from Futureworks Consulting Inc., a Nova Scotia technology consultancy, argues that:

  1. Innovation is a social and cultural process within which business innovation is more, or less, likely.
  2. Innovation processes are much more important that Innovation Programs. Design the process correctly and the programs will take care of themselves.
  3. The "BRIC" countries are not especially relevant to Canadian realities although the emerging markets are fundamentally important for the future of the Canadian economy. Both Chile, and its innovation agency, Fundacion Chile, and Singapore, and its "A-Star" agency, may be more appropriate Canadian referents.
  4. Canadian, and especially Atlantic Canadian, business innovation has to become more closely linked to the fastest growing region of the world economy, Southeast and East Asia.
