Summary: The Canada Mining Innovation Council (CMIC) is concerned that mining-related research is not receiving the support it warrants, based on its contribution to the Canadian economy. CMIC, a partnership of industry, government and research stakeholders, is currently working to define, prioritize and support the research that the mining industry will need to keep it a main stay of the Canadian economy well into the future. Recommendations are provided for actions the federal government (and other partners) could undertake to stabilize support for mining R & D, and thereby contribute to the continued role of mining to Canadian prosperity and growth, including in rural and northern Canada where engines of growth are fewer.
