Dr. Arvind Gupta

Dr. Arvind Gupta is a professor of Computing Science at the University of British Columbia, and is CEO and Scientific Director of Director of the Mathematics of Information Technology & Complex Systems group (MITACS), a national research network which connects academia, industry and the public sector to develop tools for Canada's knowledge-based economy. He also chairs the MITACS Research Management Committee and is a member of the MITACS Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Prior to joining MITACS, Dr. Gupta helped found the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery.

Dr. Gupta is a member of a number of research organizations, including the Association of Computing Machinery, the European Association of Theoretical Computer Science, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a Fellow of the Advanced Systems Institute. He is also a member of NSERC International Strategy Advisory Committee, British Columbia Natural Resource and Applied Science Endowment Fund Advisory Committee, and the Executive of the Banff International Research Station.

Dr. Gupta is the editor of two book series on industrial mathematics and is currently the President of the 2011 International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Dr. Gupta has a B.Sc. from McMaster University, an M.Sc. from the University of Toronto and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.
